A 10-Year Journey told through Mixed Media

Swasthya Swaraj’s decade's journey of bringing healthcare to remote tribal communities in Odisha.

What happens when a nonprofit decides to rewrite the healthcare story for an entire community?

This is the story of Swasthya Swaraj, a small but mighty organisation in Kalahandi, Odisha. The organisation has been bringing life-saving services to remote tribal communities for over a decade.

We recently partnered with Swasthya Swaraj to tell their story. The result? A mixed media story capturing a 10-year journey through photos, videos, motion graphics, and real voices. A story that reflects resilience, trust, and real change.

A Story of Resilience

Swasthya Swaraj was founded by Dr. Aquinas Edassary, who visited the region and thought, “Every doctor wants to go to urban areas. What about the people who need healthcare the most?”

That question sparked a mission to bring healthcare to where it was needed most, tribal communities in rural India.

“Every doctor wants to go to urban areas. What about the people who need healthcare the most?”

In the last 10 years, they’ve brought healthcare where others have feared to go. They’ve set up health camps, tackled diseases like malaria and tuberculosis, and built trust in communities. These are places isolated by geography, disconnected from mainstream healthcare, and often left behind. Swasthya Swaraj changed that.

A Mixed-Media Story

We didn’t just want to showcase Swasthya Swaraj’s work, we wanted to capture the essence of their impact. This was more than a project. It was a chance to bring their mission to life through mixed media storytelling.

We sifted through years of photos, videos, reports, and testimonials. The challenge: distill over 10 years of hard work into one visual story. We wanted to highlight key moments that illustrated their achievements and the human side of their work.

We chose to let the visuals tell the story. Using bold typography to emphasise milestones and key facts. We used parts of folk music, authentic voices from the community, and even audio clips from their media archives to connect the story back to the people who lived it.

Bringing Stories to Life

This wasn’t just a video. It was a human story.

We used tribal motifs, a traditional form of expression, to give the video a visual identity tied to the community. It wasn’t an aesthetic choice; it was about making the story feel authentic. We wanted the community to be part of the story, not just in it.

Storytelling is not just about sharing what you’ve done. It’s about connecting with people. At Simit Bhagat Studios, we believe in the power of mixed media storytelling for social impact. We know that through imagery, sound, and human stories, we can support organisations to showcase their work impactfully.

Storytelling is not just about sharing what you’ve done. It’s about connecting with people.

The story of Swasthya Swaraj proves that great storytelling can do more than raise awareness. It can change lives, inspire action and move people to care.

If you’re a nonprofit, social enterprise, or mission-driven organisation, it’s time to bring your story to life.
